Customizing
Ski Boots
The
first step in customising ski boots, is to make a
footbed. From there, all manner of modifications can
be made. Under normal circumstances, there are two
reasons for boot modification; performance and comfort.
In theory any correctly sized ski boot can be made
to fit the foot, however the cost of extensive modifications
may be high.
In cases where a skier needs a very high level of
performance, and once a suitable boot is selected,
we will start with a shell one size smaller than usual.
This shell will then be modified by heating and stretching,
to conform to the foot shape. The objective here is
to minimise the possibility of space between the foot
and the shell, to provide the lowest possible reaction
time. There are many parts available to us to further
modify the selected boot, in order to stiffen the
flex or increase the forward lean, and so on.
When there is a comfort problem, caused by either
an abnormality or a particular sensitivity, again
we have a number of options available to us. In the
case of an abnormality, it will naturally depend on
the nature of the problem. For example, where a toe
has been amputated, we may overcome the problem simply
by force forming the footbed. In more extreme cases,
a custom skiboot liner can be made.
It's the experience that our technicians have through
solving many problems that makes it possible for us
to offer a fit guarantee with any new boot fitted.
