A footbed is sometimes referred to as an Orthotic. An Orthotic is a device
which addresses the cause of an abnormality. A custom footbed is an insole
made to interface between your foot and the boot or shoe, and addresses
bio-mechanical imbalance.
There are many causes for bio-mechanical imbalance. Common examples are
pronation and supination, which are, respectively, a rolling in and out
of the ankle during forward flexion. A rolling-in during flexion, brings
pressure to bear on the inner cuff of the skiboot which in turn causes you
to be on opposing edges of both skis (as in a "Snow-plough").
Even a foot that appears to be well balanced, will pronate under the forces
of skiing.
If you could see inside the boots of most skiers and snow boarders sliding
down black trails with confidence, you'd find custom insoles beneath their

that forms the core is laminated with a tough cushion of pliable EVA for
