Professional Ski & Snowboard Tuning

Taken 23rd March 2004
At Bumps, we are committed to providing the best ski and board tuning available. Using our NEW equipment from Wintersteiger and years of experience allow us to help you ski better. Like your car, your ski's need tuning to stay in peak performance and condition. Superior GLIDE and GRIP in every case are the key ingredients for PREDICTABLE ski performance.
We are the Only store in Melbourne Metro that can reproduce a New factory ski or board tune.

BASE REPAIRS

Even small scratches can effect a skis ability to glide smoothly. Only one thing can return glide to a ski. A quality repair from a professional shop. Using our new Skid Laser 50 (automatic base resoler), pure polyethylene is fused with the base, instantly forming a repair that lasts.

BASE FLATNESS

From edge to edge as well as from tip to tail is mandatory for optimum gliding and turning performance.  Flat ski bottoms possess the best gliding characteristics since they distribute the skier's weight evenly across the running surface minimizing friction between ski bottom and snow surface.  Stability at speed is best on a flat ski base. In addition, edge to edge transition required for ease of turning is dependent on this flat ski bottom.

STONE GRINDING

Our new Wintersteiger Micro 71 Ski and Board grinder provides the best correctly structured stone ground finish and is the well-accepted state-of-the-art finish for alpine & nordic skis and snowboards.  A non-fibered, structured finish produced by stone grinding can improve the gliding ability (both longitudinal and lateral) of the ski base over a wide range of snow conditions.

EDGES

Since the average skier spends about 80% of his/hers skiing time on their edges, a high quality edge finish is very important for optimum performance.  If the edges are rusted or corroded or loaded with nicks and burrs, solid edge grip is very difficult.

Beveling is a very important ingredient of MICRO FINISH ski service. The base side of the edge is bevelled away from the snow to provide a smooth initiation and steering phase in a turn.  We use our new Trim 71 Ceramic Disc grinder to finish the edge with the perfect Factory Finish and angles.

WAXING

Waxing and de-burring with a belt waxer is the final operation in MICRO FINISH TUNE base preparation.  In addition to the application of a wax layer to help protect the ski bottom from the elements (oxidation), the wax improves glide and turn initiation.
